Heart-shaped “One Thousand Thank Yous” installation features messages to organ donors

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital is making sure organ donors receive a bold gesture of appreciation with the heart-shaped “One Thousand Thank Yous” installation. Commissioned by George King Architects, the piece will feature individualized notes from recipients of the life-saving interventions.

One thousand personal messages of gratitude from those who have been given a second chance through organ donation will hang from steel wire in the shape of one of the most commonly donated organs. The messages will be stamped on an aluminum sheet and then anodized in gold, each in the shape of a gift tag to symbolize the incredible gift given to them. The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Organ Donation Committee are still collecting messages to include in the installation, which can be submitted on their website.

George King has said about the project, “We are very pleased to have been given the opportunity to create an installation celebrating the incredible gift of organ donation. This has been an inspiring brief to respond to and we hope that One Thousand Thank Yous will be a worthy reflection of a remarkable act.” Through this piece the noble contributions of donors can be widely seen and honored.
